PRINCIPALITY STADIUM TO HOST WALES SEMI FINAL MATCH

The Principality Stadium is set to show the game between Wales and Portugal in the semi final of the Euro 2016 ongoing in France.

In 2011, the stadium opened its doors to fans when the Welsh rugby team played France in the semi final of the World Cup.

The Cardiff Euro 2016 fanzone has also been moved to the stadium for the semi final clash with the Portuguese side on Wednesday. Welsh fans will be able to see the game for free at the stadium as the Welsh Rugby Union joined with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and Cardiff Council. The game will take over from Cooper’s field as the location for the fanzone for increased capacity so fans can watch the biggest game in the history of the country’s football.

A 100ft screen will be installed alongside the already existing two screens at the venue. The game comes five years after the one in which Wales played France. The game is set to be played in Lyon in France. The Swansea Council also announced that they would host fans in a 20,000 capacity fanzone at Singleton Park.

CELTIC GET BIGGEST EVER JERSEY DEAL IN SCOTTISH HISTORY

Scottish football outfit, Celtic, announced the biggest shirt deal in the history of Scotland when they announced the further strengthening of their existing partnership with leading company Dafabet, a leading global betting brand, as the company was named a new Main Club Sponsor.

Both parties agreed to a new four-year agreement where the company will be featured on the front of the club’s shirts from the beginning of season 2016/2017. Dafabet already has a great relationship with the Club, having entered into a five-year partnership last season by becoming Celtic’s International Betting Partner but according to the Head of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship at the company, they are advancing.

John Cruces said:

“A year ago I said that no matter where in the world you are, you see Celtic shirts such is their tremendous support and fan following. We’re talking about one of the most iconic and recognised shirts in football.

“Now to have Dafabet at the heart of Celtic sponsorship is a milestone event and a very proud moment for us. Having already formed a strong partnership with the club we can only go from strength to strength over the next four years.

The club’s Chief Executive Peter Lawwell commented on the deal. He said:

“We are delighted to make this announcement, which is fantastic news for the Club and our supporters and ensures a positive, long-term and high-value partnership for the future. Continue reading →

Celtic managed to win the Scottish Premier league title

Celtic managed to win the Scottish Premier league title without kicking the ball after Dundee United managed a win over Aberdeen, who have been one of their main competitors.

The title helped relieve a lot of pressure off manager Ronny Deila, whose appointment was viewed with a lot of scepticism by critics and pundits ahead of the new season. This is largely due to the relative inexperience of the Norwegian not with just Scottish football but as a manager. The club’s chief executive, Peter Lawwell, has admitted that Celtic did take a gamble in replacing an experienced manager like Neil Lennon with Deila.

Yet, the gamble appears to have been paid off with this impressive performance in the domestic competition yet again. Apart from having won the league title, Celtic have secured a double for the season. They were in the race to win three major titles, but an extra time defeat against Inverness in the Scottish cup final has blown away those hopes. The next major target for Deila will be to get the club become more competitive in European competitions. Qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League will be considered as a major achievement and it will also help the club immensely in terms of finances. Continue reading →

Celtic FC going through Superb Time in Scottish Premier League

The Scottish club Celtic FC is experiencing a campaign with superb results in the Scottish Premiership League as they are at the top after having collected a total of 35 points from the 15 league matches which have been played and has only conceded 9 goals.

It’s a slightly different story when you see their results and their position in the UEFA Europa League as Celtic FC has booked their spot into the last 32 teams that are remaining in the European competition but it has not been an easy ride as the Scottish club conceded 11 goals in 6 matches. It’s an underwhelming track record when you compare it to how they are doing in the Scottish League but nonetheless, the side of Ronny Deila still managed to qualify into the next stages of the UEFA Europa League along with the table-toppers Salzburg.

PRESSURE EASES

The pressure surrounding Celtic manager Ronny Deila eased for the moment after his team managed a stunning 6-0 victory over Partick Thistle in the League Cup. This thrashing has put Celtic in the League Cup semi-final draw. Speaking about the eventuality of playing against one of the top teams from the country, Deila said that he and his Celtic team are ready for any opponent. The win over Partick Thistle was the fourth consecutive in all competitions. It has finally put Deila on the path of winning over the Celtic fans, who have been losing their patience in the last few weeks.

Celtic were expected to comfortably win the league title without much trouble especially in the absence of Rangers, but they are fourth in the table with just 20 points on board. Hamilton’s lead has been cut to 3 points in the last few matches. This has given Celtic real belief that they can go on and play in the Scottish Premier League once again. For the moment, attention turned towards the draw for the League Cup semifinals. After his failure to get the club into the Champions League group stages, Deila’s season will be judged upon the number of trophies that he lifts.

“For me it is about winning trophies and we are now two wins away from getting the first one. So I am looking forward to the semi-final, who we meet doesn’t bother me. We just have to win. What you remember when your career is finished is titles and that’s why I’m here – to win trophies and make sure Celtic is successful. To do that we have to meet whatever team is in front of us,” said Deila. Celtic could meet the likes of Aberdeen and Dundee United. Rangers are also in the draw for the semifinals.

WATT STAYING IN BELGIUM

The former coach of Celtic FC, Neil Lennon never really had big plans for the 20 year old striker Tony Watt who recently returned from Belgium after going through a loan deal with Lierse SK where he managed to score 8 goals in 17 appearances but it seems like his future will be in Belgium as a deal is expected to be completed within the next few days with Celtic FC allowing the young attacker to be sold to the Belgium side Standard Liege with a price tag of €1.2 million.

If all the reports and rumors are actually true and a transfer does happen then Tony Watt will be making his move to Standard Liege in a contract that lasts 5 years. Tony Watt was at the center of the spotlight in newspaper and websites all over the world back in November of 2012 when he scored a goal during Celtic’s Champions League victory against Barcelona but after that, Watt started to fade away as he could not score a goal for the remainder of the season. GRIFFITHS IN FORM

Leigh Griffiths has been in great form for Celtic since moving to the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Neil Lennon has revealed that he is extremely happy with the form shown by the 23-year-old, who was signed as the replacement for Gary Hooper. Hooper was sold to Norwich city in the summer. Griffiths had signed for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract. He was on loan at Hibernian last season and impressed heavily by scoring 28 goals last season. However, there was scepticism prior to his arrival at Celtic Park, but Lennon has stated that he is delighted with the performances from the 23-year-old.

Griffiths scored his first Celtic hat-trick in the 5-0 victory against Inverness Caley, while he also created one of the goals as well. Celtic are on course to winning the title this season, as they lead the table by a massive 19 points already. However, the season has been considered as a disappointment by many after they were knocked out of the Scottish cup. The European campaign has also not been great as well. Last season, they made it to the last 16 stage of the Champions League, but this time it has not been as successful.

Lennon says that Griffiths has provided an example of his quality and he is confident that the young striker will show more of the same next season.

“I am delighted for him and he could have had a lot more over the course of the game. His first goal pleased me the most. We have been crying out for a penalty-box striker and that was a great ball and a great finish. He doesn’t get disappointed (when he misses), he’s hungry for more chances and he took his second and third goals brilliantly. His work-rate has always been good and his goal record is great,” said Lennon.

CELTIC KNOCKED OUT

Celtic suffered an exit into Scottish club at the hands of Aberdeen after suffering a 2-1 loss at home. Neil Lennon took the blame after the match by saying that there was nothing from the Celtic side to assure him that they would win the match.

Celtic have been coasting for most of the season due to the lack of a proper threat following their relegation of Rangers. They are close to sealing the Scottish league title, while the Champions League remained as one of the chief objectives of the campaign in the first half. Continue reading →
